The Bay Area Leads August’s Most Expensive Home Sales With a $70M Hillsborough Estate

August’s top 10 list was dominated by the Bay Area. Mega-mansions in Southern California, Florida and Hawaii also made the list. 

A Bay Area estate in Hillsborough was the most expensive U.S. home sale of August, fetching $70 million. It’s followed by a $51.5 million waterfront villa in Miami Beach. 

California is home to six of last month’s 10 priciest sales, including four in the Bay Area and two in Orange County. Another Hillsborough home sold for $28.5 million, and an Atherton estate and a wine country villa fetched about $38 million apiece. The Bay Area’s big month for mega-sales comes as AI wealth drives the region’s housing market. 

Three of the priciest homes were in Florida. Hawaii also made the list: A beachfront compound on the Big Island sold for $38.2 million, making it the fifth-most expensive U.S. home sale of August.

All 10 of August’s most expensive homes sold for at least $28 million, and two sold for more than $50 million.
